This is unacceptable and requires a bold and ambitious response at the national level such as the Fiji National Action Plan to Prevent Violence Against All Women and Girls which is currently being implemented.
Violence against women and girls is not inevitable—it is preventable. The Fiji National Action Plan (Fiji NAP) is a bold, evidence-based roadmap designed to stop violence before it starts. As the first national plan of its kind in the Pacific, it represents Fiji’s commitment to tackling the root causes of violence and creating safer communities for all.
Grounded in Fijian values, culture, and context, the Fiji NAP is informed by extensive consultations with communities, experts, and survivors. It outlines practical strategies to shift harmful social norms, strengthen institutions, and create environments where women and girls can thrive free from violence.
A whole-of-government and whole-of-population initiative, led by the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection, and funded by the Government of Australia and supported by the Fiji Program Support Platform of ABT. Implemented in collaboration with key partners FWCC, House of Sarah, FWRM and DIVA for Equality, the Fiji NAP PVAWG takes a whole-of-society approach, engaging government, civil society, faith-based organizations, the private sector, and communities in a coordinated prevention effort.
Together, we can build a Fiji free from violence.

In 2020 Fiji embarked on an historic mission to develop a National Action Plan (NAP) to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls (2021-2026), making it the first Pacific Island Country, and one of the only two countries globally along with Australia, to have a whole of government and whole of community, inclusive, evidence-based approach to prevent violence against women and girls.
The Ministry of Women Children and Poverty Alleviation (MWCPA) is leading on a series of national consultations across Fiji in partnership with the Technical Working Group, government, civil society, and community stakeholders including representatives from the 13 settings key settings in Fiji to prevent VAWG.
The national consultations were designed to inform the whole of government and whole of community, evidence-based, measurable, inclusive, and funded five-year National Action Plan.
